Let's reduce the work load of Umpires!

Cricket has changed so much in last 20 years. In the early 90s, we couldn't have imagined teams chasing a score of 300 and now even a score of 400 runs look so small. With the inception of T20 cricket, things have changed further. Batsmen are swinging their bats either ways to connect and take the ball out of the park. They are hitting unusual shots like reverse sweeps, upper cuts and scoops! Bowlers might have been suffered more in last two decades due to batting friendly conditions and rules, they have become smart in terms of containing the batsmen. The game of cricket is becoming tougher and competitive day by day.

With loads of changes in the great game of cricket, comes a lot of pressure on players as well as umpires. A bowler runs in, bowls a delivery at a speed of 150 kilometers per hour, within a split of the second the batsman tries to hit it and a small edge lands the ball in the gloves of wicket keeper. The whole process ends within a second. An umpire has to take care of so many things. First of all he has to check whether the batsman is ready or not. Then he has to keep an eye on the front foot of the bowler. This is followed by whether the ball pitches in line with the stumps or it lands outside the off. There is always a possibility of an LBW appeal and hence the umpire has to check this for each and every delivery. In a jam packed stadium with so much noise, the umpire also has to pay very minute attention to the edges. There could be a caught behind appeal anytime!

Similarly once this whole action ends, there could be a chance of a run out too! Thankfully we saw the inclusion of 'Third Umpires' who would take care of the run out appeals through TV replays. And the tradition continues from more than two decades. Just for the reference of cricket fans, Sachin Tendulkar was the first ever batsman to be declared run out by a third umpire. This happened in a test match against South Africa in November 1992.

But there are many other challenges the umpires are facing in the modern game of cricket that has been full of pressure cooker situation. Recently there has been incidents where the umpires have misjudged the no-balls and the batsmen survived even after being out. One of those incidents took place at the Lord's during the final test between England and Sri Lanka.

It is high time to think about awarding the no-ball decisions to the third umpire. Let the third umpires work a bit harder apart from sipping some cold drinks. Anyhow the on field umpires are checking for no balls on almost all dismissals. Let they pay more attention to what happens after the bowler has delivered the ball rather than first having a look at the bowler's front foot and then the further action.

More fundamental reforms in the no-ball rule seems complicated. Infact logically the rule seems fine. But some sort of relief for the on-field umpires in this game of cricket which was never saw quick and umpire decisions were never so scrutinized.

As we all know one wrong decision can change the whole course of the game. Just imagine if anything as such happens in the last over of a World Cup Final. This can receive so much of scrutiny. While we are already in the modern elite cricket world of Hawk Eyes and Snickometers, let there be some technology in place where the on field umpires are relieved from making calls for the no-balls.

Before that, India faces Zimbabwe for a short cricket series that kicks off from 11th June 2016.

2nd T20I on 20th June 2016
3rd T20I on 22nd June 2016

Team Squads:
India squad for ODI and T20 series: MS Dhoni ,KL Rahul, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Faiz Fazal, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, Ambati Rayudu, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Rishi Dhawan, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Barinder Sran, Jaydev Unadkat.

Protagonist
Sanjay Bangar would coach team India for this tour. He is happy with the players at his disposal. He has a lot to experiment with the bench strength. With the likes of Rayudu, Jadhav, KL Rahul, Kulkarni and many more to name, Bangar is confident that the team will prosper in Zimbabwe.

MS Dhoni will lead the team and he would miss the services of Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He believes most of the youngsters in the squad have done well in the IPL but it would need a bit extra to prove the mettle in International matches.

The team doesn't get an opportunity to play tour games. So they will straight away start with the ODI series. Indian team is in no mood to take Zimbabwean team lightly. Last time when India toured Zimbabwe, they faced a hard time in the first ODI. Although the series went India's way 3-0, but it wasn't as easy as it reads.

Having said so, let us hope for another competitive series rather than a one sided affair. Catch the action live on Ten Sports official website and Ten 2 TV channel in India.

Here is a video posted on BCCI's official twitter handle. Some of you might be amused to see Dhoni bowling in nets!

Watch Bangladesh vs New Zealand and England vs Sri Lanka Live Streaming HotStar

HotStar continues quality live streaming and score of ICC T20 World Cup 2016 as we now move to last few matches of the Super 10s. Two more places from each group are wide open yet. India vs Australia match would decide the semi finalist along with New Zealand from one group. While the other group would decide the second finalist from England vs Sri Lanka match. We also have a match scheduled today that is merely a formality - New Zealand vs Bangladesh. Watch T20 world cup 2016 matches live streaming on HotStar and Star Sports HD network in India.

New Zealand has won all their matches so far and they were the first to qualify for the semi-finals. They defeated teams like India, Australia and Pakistan which shows the strong form they are in. Williamson has lead the team well and he has been well supported by his team mates. Their weakness has been their spin bowling but this time their strength is spin. Although they haven't scored too many big scores, but their spinners have been able to curtail the opposition for low scores too.

Bangladesh have won none so far. Infact they managed to snatch a defeat out of a straight win. They were comfortably cruising to victory against India with ample number of wickets in hand. Some over confidence and rash shots lead them to a loss by just one run. That was a pure nail biter and that gave Indian team a life line to stay in contention for the semi-finals.

England has done a better job than expected. They got a disappointing start when they lost a match against West Indies even after scoring a 180 plus score. They bounced back as hard as possible by beating South Africa. That was an unbelievable chase by England. They chased down 230 which is a record in ICC World T20 history. They would love to see South Africa lost against West Indies in the Super 10s match. If this happens, they just have to beat Sri Lanka and reach the semis.

Sri Lanka has slimmest of chances of making it to the semis. But it looks really hard. The defending champions never looked impressive. They haven't found the right combination and now it looks really late. The biggest blow in their arm was the injury to Lasith Malinga who pulled out of the T20 World Cup. If they beat England, they would have win to feel proud about.

We will provide previews of next matches. Watch the matches live on HotStar in India. And yes, don't miss the exciting match which is also a virtual quarter final - India vs Australia live on HotStar!
