Australia beats India by 122 runs

India vs Australia 1st Test match heats up the Australian summer. Two month long face off where two teams would play for pride. India vs Australia cricket series is always the most anticipated series after the Ashes. Speculations are pretty high that this is probably the best ever chance for India to clinch a test series win down under.

Melbourne Cricket Ground, Australia
England has been the team who has defeated both these teams recently. Infact defeats at the hand of England has pushed both these teams in a sort of revival phase now. Australia has seen a big makeover since the time India toured them in 2007-08. India still has many similar phases including stars like Sachin, Sehwag, Dhoni, Gambhir, Zaheer, etc.

Australia suffered a defeat recently against New Zealand so they won't take a stronger team like India lightly. Ed Cowan seems to make a debut as Shane Watson suffered an injury. If you all remember, Cowan smashed a century against Indians in the warm up game. Ricky Ponting is under a constant scanner and this certainly becomes a do or die kind of match for him. He himself agreed to the fact that he needs to accumulate maximum runs if he has to stay in this team.

Australian bowling attack looks relatively inexperienced, so is the case of the visiting team. Johnson is out of the scenario with an injury and Cummins has been rested too. With off spinner Lyon, a lot relies on the shoulders of quickies like Siddle, Hilfenhaus and Pattinson. Buzz is on the high that Dan Christian may get a chance to play at MCG.

Indian batting line up always looks the strongest on paper around the world. This time most of their batsmen have clicked form too. The only worrying factor up the order is Gambhir and Sehwag's form. Although Sehwag smashed 219 against West Indies in an ODI, but facing Australia in the longest version of cricket is a completely different scenario. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will compete for the 6th position in the team. If these two can provide a flying start, the batsmen to follow viz. Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman can click better.

Zaheer Khan is the biggest boost for the bowling deparment but let us see how long he stays fit. Ishant Sharma's recent injury is a scare for India at this moment. A lot relies on Umesh Yadav, R Ashwin and P Ojha too. Hopefully India's preparation down under this time was good enough to get into the groove. With batting being India's strength, it is obviously certain that there would be a lot of expectations from their bowling line up. Apart from that, one of the biggest question is, will Sachin Tendulkar score his 100th International century in the 1st test match?
