India West Indies 5th ODI - A good opportunity to test bench strengths

The series which was not a very luring event for too many spectators had an added flavour in Indore when Virender Sehwag proclaimed that he is back in form with the biggest ever ODI innings! 219 runs in 149 balls was certainly the highlight of this series and can we expect a big one again at Chepauk? Who knows? Anything is possible in this great game of cricket!

The venue for 5th ODI is Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai. Some information here about this stadium. It has a capacity of 50,000 spectators. This stadium hosted its first ever ODI in 1987 between India and Australia. The last match played here was between the same India and West Indies in 2011. This venue is well known for its very knowledgeable spectators. Their behaviour has been absolutely sporting.

Coming back to the 5th ODI, this will be a good opportunity for both the team to test their bench strengths. As well all know the series is already clinched by India. West Indies will try its best to turn tables on India and  conclude this tour with a win.  On the other hand, Indians would love to register one more victory before heading towards Australia for a long tour.

When both the teams have nothing to lose, some faces who were in the squad but hardly played can get an opportunity to show their skills. We can't write off the fighting spirit of West Indies and so we can't deny the winning hunger of the Indian team.

The pitch generally at Chepauk stays a bit slow nowadays. So the batsmen may face a tough time especially against the spinning departments. One thing we can very closely be sure about is, Irfan Pathan will get a chance to play. Something to cheer about for his fans. And if he can show some magic here, who knows he might be bowling very soon to the likes of Clarke and Ponting.

Will Sehwag hit back to back centuries for the first time in his career and clinch a win at Chepauk or will Sammy have the fly back to West Indies with one more win? All our questions would be answered before we fall asleep on Sunday.
