Mumbai vs Chennai - 1st Play-Off

IPL Live Match

So here we are finally with the play-offs. The four teams that will play the qualifiers and eliminators would be Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The first play off (qualifier match) would be played between first placed Chennai Super Kings and second placed Mumbai Indians today. Ferozshah Kotla will host this exciting match.

The winner of this match gets a direct entry into the finals whereas the losing team will play the winner of Rajasthan vs Hyderabad match for second place in the finals. This is the advantage of finishing in top two positions of the points tally.

Chennai Super Kings are certainly the best and the most popular team in the IPL history. This year they managed 11 wins out of 16 matches. They ended on 22 points (equal to Mumbai) and better net run-rate than Mumbai. Chennai has a better balance of home wins and away wins compared to other teams this year. Chennai won 6 matches at home and 5 away. On the other hand teams like Mumbai or Rajasthan have won more at home.

Mohit Sharma has been the find of the season for CSK. He took 17 wickets and very economical in terms of giving away runs. Bravo was expensive but he took 25 wickets and he is very much in the race of Purple Cap. In terms of batting, this team is one of the strongest. Michael Hussey has an opportunity to topple Gayle and clinch the Orange cap. Raina has been good in patches and Dhoni is an absolute treat to watch.

Mumbai Indians is one of the most well balanced team this year. Batting, fielding and bowling - everything has fallen in place for this team. Skipper Sharma has scored more than 500 runs. Dinesh Karthik has consistently scored for the team. Pollard can be very dangerous if he gets going.

Bowling wise, team has done a good job. Johnson has 22 wickets to his name. Harbhajan, Ojha and Malinga have been pretty economical. This team has a better balance than the Chennai Super Kings.

The pitch would support the batsmen. So we may see a lot of runs tonight. But bowlers would play an equally important role.
